Attendance

Regular attendance is important to the success of the band. At the same time, we recognize and welcome the seasonal nature of The Villages community.

We understand that summer attendance may be lighter. However, while you are in town, we ask that band participation be one of your priorities.

To keep the ensemble running smoothly, we use the following guideline:

  • Missing 4 consecutive rehearsals/performances or 10 total rehearsals/performances within a year will result in removal from the active roster.

If this happens, you’ll receive an email notification. You are always welcome to return—just reach out when you’re ready, and we’ll confirm your restart date. If a waitlist is in place, we’ll keep you informed.

Musical Expectations

Welcome Home Band does not hold formal auditions. However, we do aim to maintain a strong musical level so that rehearsals are enjoyable and productive for everyone.

We encourage you to review the sample music folder here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ugCquUK5ZVaVAlOSPEwBGMUMx2BLprDt?usp=sharing

You should feel comfortable preparing and performing music at this level with rehearsal and individual practice.

Chair & Part Philosophy

One of our core beliefs is that we are all experienced musicians, and this group is about making music together—not competing for position.

  • Chair placement is not intended to reflect hierarchy

  • Opportunities to rotate parts or try something new will be offered periodically (often after a performance cycle)

If you’re interested in solos, first parts, or even a different instrument, there will be opportunities to explore that. Our goal is for everyone to have meaningful musical experiences.

Rehearsal Approach

To make the most of our time together:

  • Please come prepared with your music to the best of your ability

  • Rehearsal will focus on ensemble playing rather than individual note-learning
